Dicey Dice Golf is designed for 4 players — two 2-player teams. This setup maximizes the competitive dynamic and makes the best use of the die rolls and scoring system.
While the game is optimized for 4 players (2v2), you can adapt it. For 3 players, you can play with one player on a team alone. For 5+ players, consider running multiple foursomes or creating larger teams. The core mechanics remain the same — teams are formed by tee shot position (left vs right).
Teams are dynamic — they form at each hole based on where tee shots land. The two players with the furthest-left balls team up against the two with the furthest-right balls. However, if you prefer fixed teams, you can agree before the round to keep the same pairings for all 18 holes.
You roll the die on the next tee box — after you've finished the previous hole. The number you roll determines how many units the winning team earned that hole. This builds anticipation and keeps the action flowing.
Rolls are earned through good play and achievements: low net score (1 roll), low high net (1 roll), birdies (1 each), eagles (2 each), sandies (1), pulleys (1), and closest to pin on par 3s (1). If you win both low net and low high net, you get 2 rolls. If each team wins one, you wash (no roll).
If you have closest to pin but 3-putt, the roll is awarded to the other team instead. It's a penalty for poor execution on the green — adds strategy and risk-reward to the game.
Yes! Dicey Dice Golf works at any golf course — public, private, executive courses, par-3 courses. The only requirement is that you're playing golf with three other people and have a die and scorecard. No special permissions or course modifications needed.
Track all rolls and outcomes on the scorecard as you play. After 18 holes, tally up the total units for each team. Multiply by your agreed dollar value per unit (e.g., $1 per unit) and settle at the 19th hole. The losing team pays the winning team.
You can order additional Scorecard Pads (50 sheets per pad) from our shop. Or you can simply photocopy a scorecard to have extras on hand for future rounds.
Yes! We offer a Dice Pack ($25.99) with extra premium 12-sided dice if you want backups or are setting up additional games. Each die is the same quality as the one in the Full Game Package.
Dicey Dice Golf is a friendly wagering game between consenting adult players. Check your local laws regarding gambling and wagers. Most golf courses allow friendly games between players as long as the course isn't taking a cut. Always verify with your course's management if you have questions.
Dicey Dice Golf doesn't add significant time to a normal round. You're still playing golf normally — you just roll a die and track outcomes. A typical 18-hole round takes the same time it would without the game, usually 4–4.5 hours for a foursome.
